Scams in Startup world in India
I am a student founder, and I recently had to shut down my company due to the actions of an incubator. EDC India, an incubation center, had committed ₹72,000 as a marketing allowance while charging ₹30,000 in fees. I paid their fee and also provided services worth nearly ₹50,000 based on their commitment to reimburse me. However, after two years of continuous follow-ups, they have not paid a single penny.
Chandan Tiwari (Founder of EDC India) has now threatened that if I take any legal action, his co-founder, Riddhima, will file a false case against me, potentially destroying my career. The financial loss to my company due to their actions over the past two years is estimated at around ₹5 lakh. They still owe me ₹80,000, which could have sustained my company for five more months, yet they continue to intimidate me, warning me against speaking up.
Shockingly, they are still listed as startup mentors in various places despite running fraudulent activities. Reports suggest that their total scam amount is close to ₹5 crore. Here is one such misleading article that falsely portrays them in a positive light: https://thekarostartup.com/edc-india-success-story/
I am deeply concerned for my safety, as they claim to have political connections. If anything happens to me in the next six months, I hold Chandan Tiwari and Riddhima responsible.
I urge Startup India, investor committees, and the governments of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and India to take strict action against such fraudulent practices. No other startup should have to go through this. Founders’ careers and lives are at stake.
